It is not strange to hear a rumor about Jay-Z either becoming the president of a label or signing to a label, but such things happen so often that Hip Hop fans have begun to learn how to take these numerous rumors with a grain of salt. So after so many false rumors, fans are granted with some truth. After weeks of speculation, the Brooklyn bred rapper has finally announced his new partnership with StarGate, the company which is best known in the hip hop community for producing hit singles for Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles and others.
There had been rumors swirling around for weeks about this partnership, as well as rumbles that Hov would attempt to sign 50 Cent, and Janet Jackson to this “super label.” With this deal, StarRock becomes the first partnership for Roc Nation, which is Jay-Z’s Venture with the concert distribution group “Live Nation.”
Hov spoke very highly about Stargate, proclaiming: “Stargate were like a secret weapon, we had great success with Rihanna and Ne-Yo. In only 2 years, they’ve generated 10 singles in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and 3 of those singles hit the # 1 position.
This new “superlabel” will focus on signing artist and use a developement plan that uses stratagetic global partnerships. They will do this with the help of Roc Nation, who will assist them by, providing a direct connection through the marketing and global distribution.
