Messy Marv Readies Upcoming Album Release, Takes on "Turf War", Gives Back To Neighborhood
March 20, 2007 by nando(westcoastrydaz)
San Francisco, CA, - This spring a Bay Area legend is taking it back to his neighborhood, literally. San Francisco rapper, Messy Marv, will release two separate albums representing the split between his hometown neighborhoods, Fillmore AKA "Fillmoe", a district in the San Francisco/Bay Area.
Messy Marv has been a staple in the West Coast rap scene for years. He has released 13 independent albums, and recently put out his first release on Scalen LLC/SMC Recordings/Fontana. The album, which also served as a soundtrack for his movie release, was titled Draped Up and Chipped Out (Dress sharp with lots of money) and was a big hit this past summer.
Messy Marv helped put Fillmore on the map along with other Bay Area legends: San Quinn, Rappin' 4-Tay, GLP and JT The Bigga Figga. Sadly “Fillmoe” has gained negative recognition recently with an ongoing turf war between the “Uptown” and “Downtown” districts. Violence has escalated dramatically between the two neighborhoods and unfortunately many lives have been lost in this “war”.
By releasing his upcoming albums, Fillmoe Nation Vol. 1 and Fillmoe Nation Vol. 2, Messy's goal is to try to show unity between the two neighborhoods, to bring the two sides together and stop this “war”. “I have seen people I grew up with killed in this violence and I want to play my part by trying to help the community. I decided to make these albums so I could show not only SF and Fillmoe what is happening in our communities, but also the country - the violence that happens in our neighborhoods everyday and the need to stop it,” explains Messy.
The albums, being released on SMC Recordings, will hit streets this spring, two weeks apart. Volume 1 will represent the “Uptown” district while Volume 2 will represent the “Downtown” district. On previous albums Messy called upon his famous colleagues such as E-40 and Keak Da Sneak to make appearances, this time around Messy made the decision to showcase local neighborhood/community based rappers from both sides of Fillmore. Messy states, “I wanted to give people that had not had their shot, an opportunity to express themselves, I wanted to put them on, give them a chance.”
Not only has Messy given a rare opportunity to local talent to be showcased on two nationally released albums, he has also decided to donate some of the proceeds from both albums to local gyms/community centers in both the “Uptown” and “Downtown” districts. This in turn will bring much-needed computers and other learning tools to the kids in both neighborhoods.
Messy Marv is determined to continue breaking his Scalen LLC brand with up coming projects. Gutta Mob & Jessica Rabbit are scheduled for a late spring/early summer release as well as Messy's long awaited new solo album.

Columbia Pictures calls "Ghost-Busters", pulls Mistah F.A.B's "Ghost Ride It" video
March 12, 2007 by nando(westcoastrydaz)
New York, NY, March 12, 2007 - After much scrutiny from the national news networks and beating a possible banning by MTV, Mistah F.A.B still can't shake the controversy surrounding his video "Ghost Ride It".
Columbia Pictures, the studio who owns the rights to the Ghostbusters movie franchise, threatened legal action because the video showcases the "Ghostbuster's" car and logo, among other similarities. Columbia has demanded the video be pulled from all media outlets including television and the Internet.
Mistah F.A.B's introduction to controversy began this past December when the media linked F.A.B.'s video to two tragic deaths connected to "ghost riding". The video for F.A.B.'s regional break out single, "Ghost Ride It", was already shot and MTV seriously considered banning the video due to pressure from the media. After 52 edits, the video found itself on MTV2's “Unleashed”, MTV Jams "Jam Of The Week," MTVU and finally made it's way onto MTV's “Sucker Free Countdown”. The unedited version had 600,000+ views on “YouTube” just weeks before Columbia Pictures sent F.A.B. a cease and desist letter. Mistah F.A.B. is currently readying an independent release from Favea Afta/Thizz/ SMC Recordings. The album, "Da Baydestrian", will hit streets May 15th . The release will serve as a prequel to “Da Yellow Bus Rydah”, which will mark F.A.B.'s major label debut with Atlantic Records. The album is set for release later this year.

E-40's Sick Wid It Records Adds Cousin Fik To It's Roster
March 5, 2007 by nando(westcoastrydaz)
Cousin Fik, the Vallejo MC bringing the most NRG to tracks, has officially signed to Sick Wid It Records! Under the wing of the bay area's ambassador, E-40, Fik plans to release his debut album to the world as a stamped and certified Sick Wid It artist. For the past few years, Fik has used the tips and pointers that 40 water shared with him to make his start in the music industry. With that he began to hit up various DJ's and take his grind to the streets. Eventually he linked up with DJ E-Rock to release "Like A Ref Wit a Whistle". As the CEO of 3030/Sick Wid It and 40's brother and right hand man, Mugzi got his hands on a copy and was impressed, with 40 himself ultimately hearing it and deciding to make his 'hood counterpart part of his SWI fam.
Cousin Fik is working on his debut album, "NRG Muzic", a new mixtape, and a major collaboration album. Organized by producer Cozmo, Fik will be part of a collective called "101" which includes Infamous J. Davinci, and Costel (formerly Mr. Riddla), 2 other young MC's with a matching drive and talent.
Look out for more new music from Fik here on West Coast Rydaz. In the meantime bump the songs we have posted in the past months, Keep Shit Lit ft. Mistah FAB, Turfin and Trappin from "Like A Ref Wit a Whistle", and the exclusives Out The Window & Y I Talk Like Dat, which is produced by Gennessee.

The Man With Street Cred, Exclusive Interview with CEO Charles Kelly
March 5, 2007 by nando(westcoastrydaz)
San Quinn, J. Valentine, Ya Boy, Bailey, Willie Hen, Big Rich, these are just a few artists carving their own niche in the music industry today. Since the early 90s, to be an artist from San Francisco's Fillmore district meant they were ones to look out for, and their local success would soon become something greater.
One central label synonymous with that area was Done Deal Entertainment. Many of these Fillmore district artists had their start with DD, and CEO Charles Kelly was overseeing and pushing the movement every step of the way, from San Quinn, to Fully Loaded, to the final addition of Done Deal, LLC, Ya Boy. Although things were reworked and people went their seperate ways, Charles (known to most as Chuck) vowed to continue using that winning formula to bring up a new generation; artists who had talent, unique styles, and Street Cred. With the first up to bat being Big Rich, Chuck launched his new label in late 2005 and proved that even though his Done Deal days were over, the music was still solid, and the movement stronger than ever.
Chuck sat down with West Coast Rydaz to discuss his start in the music business, how Done Deal came about, what's in store for his new artists, his outside ventures to look out for and much more.
Street Cred Artists Featured Audio
Selau - A Man That Goes ft. Goldie Gold
Boo Banga - Candy ft. Bailey, Selau
Big Rich - That's The Bidness

DJ E-Rock No Longer Airing Bomb Bay Radio, Named Top 30 DJ!
January 13, 2006 by nand
First off we would like to share the news of DJ E-Rock being named one of the Top 30 most influential of 2006 through MixUnit.com. Alot of DJs claim the #1 spot but it takes alot to really earn the title and E-Rock let his hard work do all the talking.
DJ E-Rock who has been broadcasting his Bomb Bay Radio show through Hip Hop Nation 40 for over a year will no longer be continuing the show on HHN. In it's run, the show featured a handful of special guests, from up and comers The A'z, the vets like E-40, and even hip hop greats Nas, Young Jeezy and more. We saw tons of world premieres on Bomb Bay throughout the year. This does not mean we will be hearing the last of E-Rock on Sirius airwaves though. E-Rock had this to say:
"Although Franzen and I will not be broadcasting on Hip Hop Nation we will have further details on our new show which will be bigger, better and more influential than our first run. We'd like to thank Hip Hop Nation's staff and format manager Reggie Hawkins for believing in the Bay Area and us to speak for it... since then our movement has grown as such a huge rate!
We will be making a huge announcement very shortly that will be straight to the point. Trust me it's about to go down!"
