    DMX GETS NO BOND

Legal drama for rapper DMX continues to unfold as the entertainer sits in a Florida jail under a no bail hold status.

TMZ.com reports that DMX, born Earl Simmons, appeared in court on Friday (August 15) after a bench warrant was issued against him in Arizona for drug charges.

The rapper was arrested Thursday (August 14) while attempting to leave a Wal-Mart in Miami, Fla.

The arrest came as result of Simmons skipping a court date on Tuesday (August 12) for a pretrial conference on allegations of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.

The rapper had reportedly tried to surrender to police, but was taken in before negations with his lawyer were completed.

Simmons’ lawyer, Brad Cohen, waived extradition for his client and contested a no bond hold, after a $25,000 bond had previously set for Simmons.

Despite Cohen’s attempt to get a fugitive bond in the state of Florida for Simmons to return to Arizona to bond out, Judge Lawrence Schwartz upheld the no bond status, which was issued by the State of Arizona.

“I am not questioning the veracity of anything you just said to me. I would absolutely have no reason to do that,” Judge Schwartz said. “But until state of Arizona lifts its no bond status, it’s a no bond status at this point.”

As a result of the ruling, Simmons will have to stay in jail in Florida until his October 2 court hearing for a possession charge he obtained in Miami.

Cohen later told TMZ he would have the rapper released before the hearing if everything is straightened out.

TOO SHORT,TEAMS UP WITH OAKLAND MAYOR TO STOP THE VIOLENCE

    August 15th, 2008

Hip-Hop pioneer Too Short joined the Oakland Police Department and Mayor Ron Dellums in a special community event Wednesday (Aug 13) aiming to end a recent rise in violent crimes across the city.

The “Silence The Violence” event brought together community activists and city officials who addressed resident’s concerns, heightened by two West Oakland shootouts on Wednesday.

One of the incidents, an early morning shoot out described by police as reminiscent of the Wild West, left three people injured and over 100 bullet casings from automatic weapons on the streets of one neighborhood.

Too Short saw the opportunity to participate in the “Silence the Violence” event as his responsibility as an adult to provide guidance for the city’s youth.

“Counsel them,” the Bay Area vet told local Fox affiliate KTVU-TV. “Talk to them and you tell them [like] I tell them, ‘Guess what you can do?’ And give them a direction. That’s all they want.”

The community rally, which also included a job fair, is just one of several joint efforts between the police department and the mayor’s office to deter crime in the city and encourage community policing to support local law enforcement.

The city of Oakland currently has the largest number of police officers it has had in the last two decades.

ISAAC HAYES YOU WILL BE MISSED

    August 15th, 2008
    1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 5 out of 5)

The life of award-winning composer/musician Isaac Hayes will be memorialized next week during a funeral service in Cordova, Tennessee.

The service, which will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday (August 18) at Hope Presbyterian Church, comes as the music world and fans mourn Hayes, who died Sunday (August 10), after family members found him lying unconscious on the floor near a treadmill at his home in Memphis.

Paperwork filed by Dr. David Kraus, Hayes’ family physician, listed the cause of death as a stroke, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Shula, although no autopsy on the entertainer has been performed.

Hayes’ family is well aware of the affect the singer/actor had on the public as they addressed the tragedy with an admission of being “overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and love from Isaac’s dear friends, colleagues and fans from every corner of the world, and we thank each and every one of them for their kind thoughts and prayers.”

“While he was an iconic figure to many, to us he was husband, father and friend,” the family said in a statement. “We will ever miss his love, wisdom, humor and the familiar comfort of his voice.”

News of his father’s death triggered memories from the Grammy-winner’s son, music producer Isaac “Ike Dirty” Hayes, III, as he recounted a memorable conversation with his namesake.

“I spoke to my father just recently about working on his album, and he was excited as though this were his first project,” Ike Dirty told AllHipHop.com. “I want people to remember my father for the creative, soulful, inspirational force that he was to music and African American people. He was legendary and shared his genius with the world. I also want to thank all of my peers and music industry colleagues who have reached out to express their love and prayers.”

Hayes’ musical influence isn’t lost on Ike Dirty, who has carved his own niche by producing songs for Lil’ Scrappy (”Money in the Bank”) and the Ying Yang Twins (”Drop”).

The beatmaker is also noted for his work with various artists such as Redman, Keith Murray, Chamillionare, KeKe Palmer, Too Short, Blaque, Ruff Ryders, Black Coffey and Raz-B.

Ike Dirty further expressed his feelings on losing his father, admitting to having a mixture of emotions.

“I’m sad, I’m angry, I’m happy all at once right now. I have so many memories of being my father’s son. Little things that make all the difference,” Ike Dirty said.”Things that help me maintain right now. I can’t be too sad though. My father did great, great things as a musician, humanitarian, a father and a Black man.”

In lieu flowers, the Hayes family asks fans to celebrate Hayes’ support of the Stax Music Academy and his Stax Records Legacy, by sending donations to the Academy that are made out to Soulsville, 926 E. McLemore Avenue, Memphis, TN 38106.

Please specify “In memory of Isaac Hayes.”
