Now I don’t know about you, but in my house on Sunday mornings the TV channel is flipping between football and my other Sunday fave, NASCAR! Now even though NASCAR is not what you think of when I say “hit rap song”, Kafani’s track “Fast like a Nascar” is the perfect track to change all that! Just in case you were wondering what ever happened to the cat who made that Nascar song, Kafani is on his grind to bring you some new tracks and take his music to the masses on another level.
” I just been workin’ these new records I got goin’ on. I got these songs called “Like OO” and “Cutie Pie”! I just been tryin’ to work em’ and get em’ off the ground. Tryin’ to get up there man, tryin’ to still grind, tryin’ to have the same success I had with the “Fast like a NASCAR” record.
I can tell you that I kick it with a lot of cat’s in the hip-hop culture and NASCAR is most definitely not the sport of choice on the streets. Kafani broke it down to my as to why the theme for his most successful record to date!
“It wasn’t really themed after NASCAR. The whole concept of the song was like the Hyphy movement goes fast. We had started a new little slang man. Everybody says fast, but we said it with a little slang like FAYAST! In the hood it was on a level like I need my money fayast, I’m finna break this hoe fayast, or anything that’s comin’ fast so we started sayin’ that and then it was like fayast like a NASCAR cause obviously a NASCAR is fast. That’s where the whole terminology came from. It could have been fast like a leer jet or whatever. NASCAR sounded better!
Now Kafani hasn’t limited himself to one hustle. So, to make his paper, he has branched into an industry that many of you guys have dream’t about for years…porn! Yes porn!
“You know I been workin’ on this little porn situation right now man. Got some little porn Hip-hop goin’ on right now called “Fast like a ass star”. I’m bout to host that, but that’s just on some other sh*t. But mainly man, I’m just focused on my music man. Stayin’ in the studio and just tryin’ to come with “That one” man. I mean, I had regional success and it was real big on the west coast but I’m trying to get that one record right now that’s gone stick, bouncin’ across the nation. I been just really workin’ on that. Tryin’ to build my fanbase and get that nationwide success you know? Plus I got a DVD out called “Bay Business” that got a lot of artists on there doin’ they things. It got some videos and sh*t like that. It’s cool…kinda funny too!”
Kafani is a smart cat and had some insight into the success, (or lack there of), of the hyphy movement and Bay area Hip-hop.
“Right now we got a lot of haters sayin’ that the hyphy movement is dead and this and that. I mean it isn’t really about the hyphy movement. It’s about us in the bay really uniting with each other and really tryin’ to support each other. It’s like everybody is just doin’ they own thing. I mean when you look at cat’s from Atlanta and all these other regions, they work together you know? They help each other come up! If you think about it, there should have been a hyphy tour. We aint never had no tour where all the artists came together and really showcased what the region was really doin’ you know? That’s part of the reason why “Fast like a NASCAR” didn’t blow up on the nation cause there was no other records out like it outside the west coast. So it was hard for it to get mixed with other records and that’s what made that record hard to actually go somewhere. Right now the movement is wide open. Cats just need to come together and make some music and go on the road and get out there. A lot of cat’s are satisfied with being a bay area celebrity but you got to be able to get beyond the bay area, beyond California. We got to be out there. I think cat’s just need to take it back to the grass roots out the trunk.”
You can get at Kafani to holla at him or just to keep up with what he’s got going on by hitting his myspace at www.myspace.com/kafani1. Don’t sleep on this cat cause he’s driven and hasn’t disappointed us yet! Do ya thing Kafani!
